What a neat experience having that many deer come to you in one evening. It must be a good spot and you're lucky to have it. I haven't read your other posts so I'm not sure if it's public or private.

I will say that I've been in a similar situation where you have multiple opportunities at animals in the same hunt. You learn from it all. I'm not here to rag on you but I'm sure it's something you'll never do again. I know I did! After making a poor shot with the bow when I was younger because I was so excited....I don't know where I put the pin but it felt right kinda deal....I'll never do it again! I am always reminded of that awful feeling of never finding the deer and knowing that I caused the deer to suffer and wasted the meat. So everytime I pull back on animal or set the crosshairs I always am reminded of that and make sure I have a clear shot and that I am ready for it. I told one of my hunting mentors about the situation, telling him my G5 broadheads were junk and you know what he told me? "If you put the broadhead, any sharp broadhead, in the right spot, you'll harvest your deer every time." He's right, we live and we learn.

Again, I'm not here to bust your chops, just wanted to share similar experiences. I think that having a blog is a cool idea.

I'm from central PA, so I beleve we have similar hunting situations. Seems what you guys do is pretty cool. Every spring at the hamilton rod and gun club they have an event that lasts all day where 8-10 taxidermists each mount a deer head.(from "almost" start to almost finished.) Some turned out pretty nice. Others, not so much. :) It is pretty interesting. Also, WASCO has a step by step DVD that shows how to do a deer head that is supposed to be one of the best DVDs made on the subject. One of these days, maybe I'll bite the bullet and get started. Good luck with it, it looks interesting. Do you plan on specializing in deer, or are you willing to take on other projects?
-BKAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9183864324475571276.post-32033945367556462132013-01-26T10:28:05.372-05:002013-01-26T10:28:05.372-05:00Awesome,I didnt know you were doing that. I've had more consistent pass-throughs that end up 6" or so in the dirt with my Thunderheads than I ever did with Rage or the Meatseeker. Also, flight was never an issue with any fixed or mechanical heads I've used. I guess I'm just a sucker for a good pass through, and I don't like the penetration I get with mechanicals in general. Next time I hunt will probably be with Thunderheads and basic, non-lighted nocks. :) Good luck on the remaining week and a half or your season, Krack Boys. I never have an issue with how they fly and they usually leave a nice size hole that results in a good blood trail. Plus, they bust through bone and the replacement blades are easy to install and cheap. I have yet to get anything while hunting with Evan, but as long as he is having fun, I consider it successful. I went out by my parents' with him this weekend and didn't see anything. I asked him what he was thinking, and he said "I wonder if the legos are out in grandma's house." So we left. From your pictures, it looks like you have the same 2-person tree stand that I bought this past fall. How young is too young for a treestand? Jill is due with #3 in two weeks, I'm wondering if I'll be able to take the infant hunting before the season ends.
